Inspiration Board 2009: Home

In my first post to this blog in February, the recession was at its darkest point, Domino had just closed and I wondered what the future held for the design industry. Unfortunately, while things seem to be looking up, another shelter mag, Metropolitan Home closed yesterday.

Met Home's closing reminded me of my predictions nine months ago. I wrote:
"So, what’s next? I predict a backlash against flash, a fresher, unfussy take on the classics and a focus on craftsmanship and quality."
I can't speak for all design-lovers, but I can say that this year has drastically changed my personal style. Where I was once inspired by hyper-designed spaces, expensive art and expansive estates, I'm now finding myself drawn to more spare, honest decor; objects that stand for tradition, history and craftsmanship; and country homes and seaside cottages. Of course, I still need some signature glitz, but its more likely to come from light reflecting off of an antique mirror, sparkling silver and vintage glassware.

I bet a few of you have noticed this transition, and it's been so great to have you all on the ride. In the spirit of sharing, here are a few of the spaces that have been inspiring me lately.

By the way, I can't recommend Jane Flanagan's blogs Fondly Seen and Ill Seen, Ill Said enough -- many of the images here were first seen on those sites. One of my newest blog crushes!
