Sunday Defrost
This afternoon, temperatures in DC hovered in the 60s and I took the opportunity to crack open my windows, do a little pre-spring cleaning, and pick up a cheapo Lavender plant from Trader Joes as visions of sundresses danced in my head.
Unfortunately, temperatures will be back in the 30s for the remainder of the week, so unless my pals in Jersey have other plans for me, sundresses will be on hold for a while.
However, while in fantasyland, I dreamed up one of my recurring springtime plans – picnics. Notice I said plans, not activities. The picnics never seem to materialize and my springtime Saturday afternoons are usually spent watching Made marathons on MTV. Oh, l’ennui.
But should my picnic ever come to fruition, I hope it will look like one of the over-the-top options from A View from the Terrace or Beretta seen above. It’s a shame both of those options ring in somewhere around the $400-600 range. For those of us not willing to spend half a month’s rent on a day in your local bum park, (true story: DC parks not called “the Mall” turn into Hooverville at sunset.) why not try picking up one of these cute options from Picnicfun.com and switching in your own china.
Pack up some sandwiches, a good book and a good friend and you’re all set to enjoy the two-week period of pre-swamp weather we call spring in the District of Columbia.
(The china shown above is from Pottery Barn and the tapestry is from Urban Outfitters.)
